  • Did you Know?
  • The SmartSolar MPPT solar charge controller intelligently collects energy from solar panels and stores it in your battery bank. Equally important, it maintains the health of your battery by protecting it from overcharging or undercharging. Victron MPPT solar charge controllers use Maximum Power Point Tracking technology to max out PV performance and achieve full battery charge as quickly as possible. This advantage is most noticeable in less-than-ideal conditions (low light, partial shade, very high or very low temperatures). A Victron MPPT solar charger will improve energy harvest by up to 30% compared to PWM charge controllers and by up to 10% compared to slower MPPT controllers.

    Features include:

    • Automatic Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) optimizes solar performance.
    • Fully programmable charge settings for different battery chemistries, including lithium.
    • Outstanding efficiency, exceeding 98%.
    • Set-up, manage and view valuable information at a glance, such as battery voltage and current, PV voltage and current, and historical data using the VictronConnect App.
    • Over temperature protection and power derating when the temperature is high, as well as PV short circuit and PV reverse polarity/PV reverse current protection.
    • Recovery of a fully discharged battery, provided the cells are not permanently damaged.

  • Victron's naming convention for solar charge controllers reflects the maximum PV voltage and the maximum battery charge current. For example, the Smart Solar MPPT 150/60-TR has a maximum PV voltage of 150V and can charge the battery with a maximum of 60A.

Victron solar charge controllers come with a few different PV terminal options to choose from to best fit existing connectors.

    • TR - one positive and one negative screw terminal
    • MC4 - 2 pairs of MC4 connectors (3 pairs of MC4 connectors on the 150/85, 150/100, 250/85, and 250/100 models).

When should you add more than one solar charge controller? Read our technical article.

  • Every battery comes with a spec sheet that identifies an ideal charge algorithm to maximize that battery's performance over time. Li-ion batteries, in particular, have particular charging parameters. Solar charge controllers have an unfortunate reputation for boiling (overcharging) or undercharging batteries. Victron SmarSolar MPPT solar chargers allow you to choose from preset charging algorithms for your battery type, including LiFePO4, or to set specific parameters based on your battery's unique needs. In summary, SmartSolar MPPTs work to max out PV performance and wisely manage the charging process to reach a full charge as quickly as possible.
